BIO Asia-Taiwan 2023: Global Biotech Development 29 July, 2023 Co-organized by the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) and the Taiwan Bio Industry Organization (Taiwan BIO), BIO Asia-Taiwan was grandly held at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center from 26 to 30 July. With the theme of "Embracing Asian Dynamics", this annual event for the Asian biotech industry boasted a scale of exhibition and conference that surpassed the pre-COVID-19 level, culminating in a record-breaking level of international participation. Taiwan makes breakthrough in plant-based meat technologies 28 July, 2023 A state-owned start-up will be established by the end of this year for the development of plant-based meat using a technology that Taiwan's economic ministry says makes meat "remarkably similar" to real meat. The breakthrough was made as part of a project at the Department of Industrial Technology (DoIT) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and presented at BIO Asia-Taiwan 2023. Chinese language medical AI diagnosis system implemented in Taiwan hospital 25 July, 2023 Taiwan's China Medical University Hospital (CMUH) is collaborating with Microsoft on the gHi system, the world's first Chinese language AI e-health system, which launched on Monday. The gHi system accesses a glossary of professional terms to generate medical diagnoses with an accuracy of up to 90 percent. Japan green lights MiiS's disposable endoscope, filings for other markets on the road 5 July, 2023 Following the approval granted by FDA and TFDA last year, Taiwan's Medimaging Integrated Solution Inc. (MiiS)'s disposable endoscope has been approved in Japan. According to MiiS, their disposable endoscopes are currently sold under its own brand, but in the future will also strive for other ODM business, there are also plans to expand the European Union, Southeast Asia and other markets. Advanced Biomed sets IPO terms, which could value the biotech at up to US$625 million 19 July, 2023 Advanced Biomed Inc. has set terms for its initial public offering, in which the Taiwan-based biotechnology company focused on treating cancer is looking to raise up to US$125 million. The company said it is offering 25.0 million shares in the IPO, which is expected to price between US$4 and US$5 a share. That pricing would value the company at up to US$625 million. Taiwan's garment manufacturer Makalot cracks the US healthcare market for its smart, medical clothing 18 July, 2023 Makalot's "AI Medical Smart Clothing" enters the U.S. healthcare industry, the first of its kind in Taiwan. As per Frank Chou, chairman of Makalot, the U.S. client has obtained FDA approval, and Makalot's Taiwan factory has also been approved by FDA, which is the first in the garment industry for a Taiwanese manufacturer and a rarity globally, and Makalot is releasing orders for the first batch of 2,000 pieces, with continuous shipment going forward.
